Open burning is now prohibited in Loudon County, including in the cities of Loudon and Lenoir City. The ban applies to large-scale, non-emergency, burning for purpose of clearing land for development. It does not apply to burning on agricultural land by the landowner.
BCAAT officials were actively involved in implementing this ban. They also worked with TDOT and the contractor for the construction of the new bridges and expansion of Hwy 321 over Fort Loudon Dam, obtaining agreement to refrain from burning timber cleared in preparation for the project.
Anyone who observes open burning that appears to meet the prohibited criteria can report the incident to the Loudon County Building Inspector at 865-458-4470. In Tellico Village, reports can be made to Tellico Village Public Works department at 865-458-4522.
